Optimize your images and videos with the right design dimensions
The Instagram Story has a recommended design dimensions of 1080 pixels wide by 1920 pixels high. These dimensions have an aspect ratio of 9:16.
On the contrary, device screens differ and so will affect how the Instagram stories appear. But to stay in the loop, use the recommended Instagram Story size of 1080 x 1920 pixels. You may as well consider using a minimum width of 500 pixels. Accepted file types for images: JPG and PNG; maximum size of up to 30MB.
Applications like Canva make it even easier to make a consistent selection of the right size. The free account is enough if you’re just starting.
Use the right template, font, and colour

How to Make Instagram Stories
- Make sure you have installed the Instagram app on your phone or updated to the latest version.
- Launch your app and tap the plus icon at the bottom or swipe right anywhere in Feed.
- Scroll to Story at the bottom.
- Tap at the bottom of the screen to take a photo, or tap and hold to record a video. To choose a photo or video from your phone’s gallery or camera roll, swipe up anywhere on the screen.
- Tap , or to draw, add text or a sticker to your photo or video. To remove text or a sticker, drag and drop it on at the bottom of the screen.
- When you’re ready to share, tap Your Story in the bottom left.
