Steps To Apply for Canadian Study Permit

There are many steps involved with applying for a study permit and the mode of application is also different. You can either apply online or on paper. The difference between both ways is convenience and time – the processing times vary greatly from country to country. That being said, below are the steps taken to obtain Canada Study Permit:

Step 1: Apply To Study In Canada

The first step to applying for Canada Study Permit is to seek admission to study at any of the designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada. DLI is an accredited educational institution in Canada. The school will issue you an acceptance letter which you must submit with the study permit application form.

Step 2: Review Your Eligibility and Gather Required Documents

It is necessary you ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements as you begin the application process. Also, you are to gather all required documents needed for the application and ensure that all the documents are genuine. If the documents aren’t genuine or completed, the immigration department has the right to reject your application.

Step 3: Apply for Study Permit

There are two ways to fill and submit an application for a Canada study permit. You can fill and apply online via the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC ) website or fill and submit a paper-based application. When you use the online application, you need to scan all your documents to apply while you can submit your application in hard copy and mail it to the Visa Application Centre (VAC) assigned to your country, if you are using the paper-based application.

Your application will be processed and if it is approved, you will need to go to Canada to receive your study permit but you will be issued a Port of Entry Introduction Letter which will allow you to enter the country to get the permit.

Should in case your study permit is approved and you were not issued POE. You need to apply for a travel visa and when you enter the country, you shall be given the POE.

Step 6: Apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP)

After obtaining a study permit, you are now eligible to study and work on a part-time basis in Canada. After you are done with your program, you will then apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). The PGWPP is a program that allows students who have graduated from any of the accredited educational institutions in Canada to obtain an open work permit to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

Working experience gained through the PGWPP can be used to process permanent residence within the Express Entry program.
